Some time ago, some friends and I ventured into Sydney Uni to see the one and only Jim Anderson and his mind blowing art exhibition of past and present creations.
The dude's an absolute riot. He was there to talk to those in awe about the history of the controversial magazine 'Oz' in which played part as co-editor (amongst others) and how it lead to his career as a professional collagist.
For those unaware of 'Oz' magazine, you need to sort out your Australian history knowledge, here's a rundown;
Started as a satirical humour magazine in 1963 on the sunny shores of Sydney, but then hopped the lake to London where it was known as the 'psychedelic hippy mag'.
Oz is now recognised for it's controversial content and images which landed the editors in a few hotspots (jail actually).
I strongly recommend you look into the story of Oz more, it's quite a brilliant story which leaves you feelings like revolting against society in some way or form.
So back to Jim Anderson at Sydney Uni. He was there taking us through painting by painting, collage by collage, peyote trip by peyote trip. The man is quite the cool cat, especially when he got out this traditional outfit and homemade mask/head piece and conducted some ancient dance that he learnt (presumably peyote was involved). Brilliant.
