Spinning yarn with Yacht Club DJ's

If you haven't heard of them you've obviously been living under a rock, or a nana, or a nana who lives under a rock. Under the alias Yacht Club DJ's, Guy and Gaz have been smashing the underground club scene with their, how do I put it, lively stage acts. They have been rapidly making a name for themselves not only in regards to their innovative dance remixes but also their ability to get the most mundane of club crawlers whipping out their smooth moves. The two fellas are not known to be the tamest of DJs, they have been known to ingest vodka then spit/spray it onto the psychotically over excited crowd, their shows usually involve near nudity (usually on their behalf), the occasional acrobatic light rigging manoeuvres etc etc. I got the chance to have a yarn with Guy about a bunch of stuff; club casualties, the peculiar process to tune selection and of course a word association test.

SO YOU FELLAS HAVE PLAYED A FAIR FEW FESTIVALS LATELY, DO YOU F+PREFER FESTIVALS OR CLUB GIGS?

They are both amazing for different reasons. Festivals are great because we are playing to a mostly new crowd and have to work as hard as possible to get people having a great time and feeling involved. And our club gigs / venue shows are like a huge cavalcade of family hi-jinx. People have paid to have as good a time as possible and it's humbling that they come to us to share the music.

BECAUSE OF THE WHOLE UNQUESTIONED ASSOCIATION OF DRUGS WITH FESTIVALS, DO YOU THINK YOUR TUNES SOUND BETTER WITH THE AID OF RECREATIONAL SUBSTANCES?
No, quite the opposite. I feel sorry for the people who take such things at our shows - there is so much going throughout the set it that must be terrifying.

YES WE'VE NOTICED YOUR SHOWS ARE QUITE FULL-ON IN REGARDS TO THEATRICS AND ACROBATICS. HAVE THERE BEEN ANY CASUALTIES?
Gareth seems to break things at every show, a broken rib came about after a one-man crowd surf attempt in Adelaide that ended with him doubled over a speaker.

WHEN YOU-TUBING YOU GUYS, WE FOUND A LOT OF FOOTAGE OF OVERLY EXCITED HORDES OF SWEATY FANS ON STAGE WITH YOU. WHAT'S YOUR SECRET TO GETTING EVERYONE SO GEARED UP?
The great thing about DJ-ing is you can play literally anything recorded. We use all sorts of stuff that you don't hear often and do it super quickly to keep the energy up. All we are shooting for is building fun and energy in any way possible.
